What we have seen within the last two days in the Middle East is nothing short of an organized, massive uprising against the United States by radical Muslim nations. This anti-American uprising occurring in Egypt, Libya, Yemen and other Muslim countries has undoubtedly been generated to occur on the anniversary of 9/11 by the radical Al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, as revenge for the killings of Usama Bin Laden and his own deputy, Abu Yahya al-Libi. The killings and the desecration of our American embassies and flags has been encouraged and fostered by the leaders of these nations, especially the Muslim Brotherhood thugs who are now running Egypt.
With the current USA budget deficit at approximately $1.3 Trillion and a total U.S. Government budget in excess of $3.5 Trillion, many have asked why the United States still has an extremely generous Foreign Aid Budget. In 2012, the USA will be giving away approximately $53 Billion in Foreign Aid. Some of the countries that will get this aid are Egypt, Palestine, and the Sudan, three countries which are basically now enemies of the United States.
The problem with this generosity is that the United States can’t afford to spend this money. Every dollar that the USA gives away to a foreign country, friend or foe, is a dollar that we have to borrow or print. Today, the Federal Reserve chose the path of printing even more money, to the tune of $40 Billion per month of U.S. Treasury Bond purchases using money created out of thin air.
A Few Facts Concerning the United States Foreign Aid Giveaways
From Obama’s Budget Document for FY 2012, proposed Foreign Aid for 2012 is $53.463 Billion. (Both USAID and War related Foreign Aid). Actual Foreign Aid given in 2011 was $48.830 Billion.
Proposed Foreign Aid for 2012 $42.1 Billion
War Related Foreign Aid for Afghanistan and Iraq $11.2 Billion
Overall, 2012 represents a gain of about $5 Billion over 2011.
Some Other Interesting Foreign Aid Giveaways:
- Pakistan $850 million for a fund to help Pakistan’s military develop counter-insurgency capabilities to fight Islamist militants within its borders. We gave them $1.783 Billion in 2009. $1.911 Billion in 2010.
- Uzbekistan $12 Million in 2009. Currently restricted.
- Egypt $1.3 Billion in 2012, $1.555 Billion in 2010, $1.785 Billion in 2009.
- Gaza/West Bank Over $1 Billion in 2009.
- Russia $479 million in 2009 (Why are we giving any money to Russia?)
- Pakistan $1.783 Billion in 2009.
- South Africa $571 million in 2009 (Does South Africa really need our money?)
- Philippines $185 million in 2009.
- Sudan $1.213 Billion in 2009.
- Uganda $474 million in 2009
Foreign Aid and the Presidential Election
Given the recent events, I am hopeful that Mitt Romney will start to take a strong stand against giving United States foreign aid to our enemies. It is been edifying to hear Gov. Romney speak out against the appeasement and apologies already expressed by Obama and the Administration to the Islamic radicals in Egypt. I would hope that Romney will go further and bring up this whole issue of the foreign aid giveaways by the Obama administration. It is even more infuriating when these borrowed dollars are given away to the sworn enemies of the United States.
Republicans everywhere should be encouraging Gov. Romney to take up this argument and provide a clear choice between the appeasement of Obama and the strength that America should be demonstrating right now. In addition, Romney can become an even stronger voice supporting Israel against the sea of Islamic radical enemies they now face. Romney has tried to make his entire campaign about the economy and jobs, and to date It is not working and he is losing that argument. It is time for the Romney campaign to incorporate new issues into the mix and to energize the voters against Obama. If Romney does this, it is likely that his campaign will be re-energized and will possibly provide the winning margin that America needs to eliminate the possibility of another disastrous four year term for Obama.
